Recent incidents in East Sussex

Driving along the A27 dual carriageway between Worthing and Lewes, this plum decides to drive on my bumper at 70mph. I was overtaking a long line of cars in the inside lane, so I had no option but to continue. Please Sir, forgive me for not wishing to drive at 90mph for the sake of this Mercedes muppet! Anyway, as it works out, he followed me all the way into Lewes, and challenged me when I got out of my car at Tesco. He was surprised when I got out. He didn t realise that I was approximately twice as big as him, and half his age. If you come across this guy, just stay out of his way. Firstly, he drives badly, veering all across the lane. Secondly, he speeds and tailgates without concern for anyones safety. Thirdly, he finds it funny to racially abuse people. I won t repeat the word he used to describe me, but rest assured someone of my colour doesn t find it very funny. Fortunately, I have some patience with clearly uneducated people, so I was able to just accept it. I don t particularly enjoy driving. Its something of a necessary evil. I just wish that people like him would just stay off the road, and make it a safer place for the rest of us.

Bright yellow van from ‘Fort Fun’, a local kids theme park – so no wonder it was driven like a bunch of clowns were behind the wheel. 70mph in the outside lane is quite clearly not enough for the driver of this van and so thinks tailgating & flashing the car in front is the appropriate solution even though the inside lane was occupied. Nice one mate. Next time, don t do it in your firms vehicle, or better still, don t do it full stop.

I know this happened over 2 years ago, but to date it remains the worst driving I have seen. I overtook this guy on the dual carriageway as he sat two inches from the rear of a VW van. Once I turned left at the roundabout and into a 30mph urban route this guy was now behind me giving me a personal demonstration of his tailgating abilities (the grille of his square-fronted Volvo was not visible in my mirror – that’s how close he was). On approach to Langley Roundabout we both joined the right hand lane to take the second exit (dual carriageway) as directed by the painted arrows on the road surface – at which point he almost went into the back of me. Once *on* the roundabout the Volvo driver moved to the left lane and positioned his vehicle level with the rear nearside of my vehicle. As I exited into the right-hand lane of the dual carriageway, the Volvo driver in the nearside lane accelerated and remained in my blind-spot as I increased my speed. Once I eventually passed & filtered in I maintained my speed to increase the gap between him & myself before slowing down gently. The Volvo almost shunted me from behind & then pulled alongside and sounded his horn to show his (dis)approval. The heavily bearded driver of this car displays consistent ignorance of the highway code, common sense and for the safety of others. And this was not his first time I had been victim to the sheer ignorance and dangerous behaviour of this one individual, but was easily the worst and most dangerous episode yet. --- Context --- Type: Bad Driving Location: East Sussex Vehicle: Volvo Registration: NO09 XXT Date reported: 2023-07-26 --- Safety takeaway --- Stay defensive, leave space, and avoid escalating risky behaviour.

This incident took place when dark so I can t confirm the exact colour of the car or if the driver was male or female. This large roundabout is located on the A22 dual carriageway where it meets the A27. I approached the roundabout in the left lane (out of two) to take the 3rd exit (12 0’clock) which is straight on. Road signs confirm this by directing traffic into both lanes for this exit so no one should misunderstand the procedure. The Lexus - complete with front fog lamps switched on (*no fog*) – was behind in the second lane & joined the roundabout *after* I did. As I signalled to take the [single carriageway] exit I let the car in front filter in; the Lexus driver decided to try and overtake me & push in between myself and the car in front, almost driving straight into the side my car. Realising that there wasn’t enough room the driver dropped back & flashed his/her lights repeatedly before leaving the high beams on.

A picture paints a thousand words....and so does the dent in my door (which may or may not be due to this driver). I wasn t as lucky as the Citroen driver in the photo - this pickup parked next to me a few months back, and was so close my passenger couldn’t get in and I had to get the trolley attendant to help me back out the bay. If viewed from the side this truck is quite clearly overhanging the bay & in to the path of the traffic flow. This branch of Sainsbury’s does have larger bays so there is no excuse. PS., I m not anti-SUV but some consideration wouldn’t go a miss.
