Description

Also, silver Vauxhall Corsa 3dr (didn’t get the reg). The Citroen driver approaches the roundabout in the left lane and correctly enters the left lane on the roundabout, but just before the first exit the Citroen driver drifts into the middle lane (my lane), forcing me to brake. The Vauxhall driver behind almost rear-ended me, and then undertook me sounding his horn and followed the Citroen driver into exit 2 (no idea if this guy was hooting at me or the Citroen driver but either way, he was behaving completely over the top). This roundabout is clearly marked with lanes, arrows and route numbers. On approach are two lanes as per normal Highway Code rules. Once onto the roundabout the road divides into three lanes with the left lane for exits 1 & 2, the middle lane for exits 2 & 3 and the right-hand lane for exits 3, 4 & full circle. For some reason, some drivers straighten out like this Citroen driver, presumably either they get confused by the road markings, or they try and cut out the curvature of the roundabout. The irony is these road markings were only laid a few months back, most likely with the intention of improving safety! Beforehand it was normal Highway Code rules - left lane for left & straight-on & right-hand lane for straight-on & right - and worked all the better for it. If you’re really unlucky, you might get someone using the right-hand lane on the roundabout to take the 2nd exit, cutting across one or even two lanes of traffic (remember that traffic taking the 3rd exit can use the middle lane, as directed by road markings).
